The Swedish Vallhund Pedigrees database, svpedigrees.com, has been handed over to the breeds club in Sweden, Specialklubben för Västgötaspets (SKV). As many know, Sharon Donaldson, Kennel Ausled Australia, has operated the database for many years. SVPedigrees has grown continuously and today has kinship information and other valuable data for over 27,000 Swedish vallhund right from the founders of the breed until today. SVPedigrees is therefore a very valuable source of knowledge for breeders and enthusiasts worldwide.

A few years ago, SKV signed an agreement with Sharon Donaldson to take over the database on the day Sharon feels that she has done her part in running and managing the database. During the month of December 2025, the move has taken place, Menno Vlaanderen, who managed the data technical part of the database, has transferred the database to the Swedish breeds club.

We are grateful to have been trusted to manage all the important data compiled over the years. We therefore want to send a big thank you to Sharon for her solid work and commitment to the breed. We also want to thank everyone else who contributed to us having such a valuable database. You will be important and needed in the future as well.

Sharon will also in the future be one of the volunteers around the world who continuously enter important information and new dogs/litter into the database.

The SKV will in January 2026 take over financing of the operation of SVPedigrees and welcome everyone to use the system. We will therefore remove the option to donate money.

Today, there is a very rapid development of systems that support breeders in breeding work. Not least because the demands from authorities and the public regarding responsible breeding of both physically and mentally healthy dogs are constantly increasing. This is of course also a central goal for the Swedish breed club and to preserve our great breed.

The possibility of having access to international, relevant data and functioning systems will therefore be even more important in the future. SKV has therefore already started work to review how all information in SVPedigrees can best be managed and developed for the future. The database is many years old, and the tool it is built with needs to be upgraded if possible. However, the most important thing for the breed is not the system itself but its valuable data and giving breeders access to important and working tools, so we will look broadly at the best solution for the future.

Feel free to enter the database and follow your dog’s pedigree all the way to the very first approved Västgötaspets. We are happy to receive pictures and supplementary information, such as health information, on your dog. (Do this when you want to submit a picture of your dog; add information to SVPedigrees)

SVPedigrees har vuxit kontinuerligt och har idag släktskapsuppgifter och annan värdefull data för över 27 000 västgötaspetsar ända från rasens founders fram till idag. SVPedigrees är därför en mycket värdefull källa till kunskap för uppfödare och entusiaster över hela världen.

För några år sedan tecknade SKV ett avtal med Sharon Donaldson om att ta över databasen den dag Sharon känner att hon tycker att hon gjort sitt med att driva och förvalta databasen. Under december månad 2025 har flytten skett, Menno Vlaanderen som skött databasens datatekniska del har flyttat över databasen till den svenska rasklubben.

Vi är tacksamma över att ha fått förtroendet att förvalta all den viktiga data som sammanställts genom åren. Vi vill därför rikta ett stort tack till Sharon för hennes gedigna arbete och engagemang för rasen. Vi vill också tacka alla andra som bidragit till att vi har en så här värdelfull databas. Ni kommer vara viktiga och behövas även i framtiden.

Sharon kommer även i framtiden vara en av de volontärer runt världen som kontinuerligt lägger in viktiga uppgifter och nya hundar/kullar i databasen.

Specialklubben för Västgötaspets kommer från och med januari 2026 finansiera driften av SVPedigrees och välkomnar alla att använda systemet. Vi kommer därför ta bort knappen för att donera pengar.

Idag sker en mycket snabb utveckling av system som stöder uppfödare i avelsarbetet. Inte minst för att kraven från myndigheter och allmänhet kring ansvarsfull avel av både fysiskt och mentalt sunda hundar ökar konstant. Detta är såklart ett centralt mål även för Specialklubben för Västgötaspets och för att bevara vår fina ras.

Möjligheten till att ha tillgång till internationell, relevant data och fungerande system kommer därför att vara ännu viktigare i framtiden. SKV har på grund av det redan påbörjat ett arbete för att se över hur all information i SVPedigrees bäst kan förvaltas och utvecklas för framtiden. Databasen har många år på nacken och det verktyg den är byggd med behöver uppgraderas om det är möjligt. Det viktigaste för rasen är dock inte själva systemet utan dess värdefulla data och att ge uppfödare tillgång till viktiga och fungerande verktyg så vi kommer titta brett på bästa lösning för framtiden.
